It is with much sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Noel McMahen – premiership player in 1948, 1955 and 1956, and Melbourne captain in the latter two teams.

Noel served the Melbourne Football Club with loyalty and dedication from the time of his senior debut in 1946. Whether playing in the No. 35 guernsey, working diligently as a board member to stabilise the club’s fortunes, or as part of Coterie, he was a special part of the red and blue.

Besides attaining numerous honours – Life Membership, Hall of Fame induction and Team of the Century membership among them – Noel was well known across generations and demographics of Melbourne supporters, as well as the wider football community. He was a much loved and valued figure, treasured for his ongoing love of the game, and his generosity of spirit.

There is no doubt that we will all miss him, and that we will always treasure his contribution to the Melbourne Football Club and the game. Our most sincere condolences go to his daughters Annie, Jenny and Karen, and to his wide circle of former teammates and friends.
